Using Stars in Text

Keep the decoration readable and choose the character that fits your actual task.

Build a rating

Use ★ and ☆ together, for example ★★★★☆. These are text characters, so the row does not create an interactive rating widget.

Keep a text appearance

The plain ★ and ☆ characters usually follow the surrounding text color. ⭐ and 🌟 are emoji and can have fixed colors or different artwork.

Choose an asterisk carefully

For programming and searches, use the ASCII asterisk *. A decorative ✱ or ✳ is a different character and will not act as the same operator.

FAQ

Star Symbols FAQ

What is the difference between ★ and ☆?

★ is BLACK STAR, U+2605; ☆ is WHITE STAR, U+2606. The names describe filled and outlined shapes rather than a required display color.

Why does my star turn yellow?

You may have copied an emoji such as ⭐ or 🌟. Try ★ or ☆ for a text-style shape. Your font and app still control its final appearance.

How do I copy an entire star combination?

Click a combination card in the aesthetic section. The complete sequence, including spaces and punctuation, is copied and saved as one item in the bottom copy bar.

How do I make a five-star rating in text?

Use filled ★ and outlined ☆ characters, for example ★★★★☆. Copy a star, expand the bottom copy bar and edit its saved text to make the rating. It is a text label rather than an interactive rating control.

Is a decorative star combination a single character?

Usually not. A sequence such as ⋆。°✩ contains several characters. A combination card copies all of them together, while a single-star card copies only its own character or sequence.
